Homeschool Scout with Quek TL - Visiting Siddharthan Care Centre PJ 9 Dec 16

The scouts made a visit to Siddharthan Care Centre.

I gave each of them a shopping list and budget. They did the comparison and calculation.

We also baked cupcakes with the help of a talented young baker JY,  to bring over to the children.

Ice breaking session where children introduced themselves and told their ambition. Mostly wanted to be a doctor, teacher and scientist. My children said they want to be a beautician and a manicurist. Hmmm. .

At the Care Centre, scouts assisted Mr Quek in teaching "origami".

Using hand drill.

We started scout after a long break due to haze. Kids are excited to see their scout master Mr Quek again.

There is a long list of tests in order to get "Lencana Keris Gangsa."  It looks difficult. Despite of that, kids are looking forward to tackle each and every one of it.

Homeschool Scout Camp with Quek TL (2nd) at Hutan Lipur Sg Sendat, Ulu Yam Selangor 5 September 2015

Term 2 of scout ended with an overnight camp at Sg Sendat.

Setting up tents.

The yellow tent pegs was turned into some sort of shoe holder by En.

En, was the scout leader for the camp.

Squeezing lemon - to make lemonade for tea.

Quek took so much effort to build the flying flox over Sg Sendat.
The gunny rope had to be carried across the river without getting it wet.

It made the kids so so happy.

Song and ghost stories at night.
Kids were also divided into group and were led and stayed in darkness for almost 15 minutes, with their survival kit

Warm-up excercise early in the morning before they were led to hunt for the hidden food.

The girls' tent in the morning, nice and tidy. :)

They have earned the "Lencana Keahlian" (Cub Scout Badge) !!!
The scout master presented them the badge after reciting "Persetiaan Pengakap"  Both grinned happily.
Thank you so much, Quek TL. We are looking forward to Term 3.

Lencana Keahlian Penagakap July 2015

In order to get  their "Lencana Keahlian Pengakap " (Scout Membership Badge), the children need to remember 5 things listed below.  Looking at the lines in "Bahasa Malaysia"(Malay language) given by their scout master, En asked if she could recite them in English. I said "Call him up and ask".
She called and he said "No!!!"  (Thank God and Quek!!! )
So they both have to work on reciting them in Malay language and learnt new words along the way.

Once they came to me and said that it is hard to remember "Kedaulatan".
So I said " Do you know there is a very famous restaurant that called "Kedau" and your mom and dad love to visit this restaurant."  Both of their eyes twinkled! They said, " I have not heard of that."  And I said, "Yeah, at the time, you were not born yet. This famous restaurant serves delicious "La Tan" (spicy egg in Mandarin). It is soooo "La" that I have to drink so much water. So they asked "Is this real?" Laughing, I said "No, I am just trying to make up a story for you to remember "Kedau La Tan."
And they remember it instantly.
Somehow, after two more funny stories of "Kesusilaan"and "Kesopanan" they didn't come back to me for more story"

They manage to recite (A) , (B) and (E) in Malay language and now waiting anxiously for the scout badge, which will be given on the camp day at the last week of term 2.

A) Persetiaan & Undang-undang Pengakap

Bahawa dengan sesungguhnya, saya berjanji dan bersetia, yang saya, dengan seberapa daya upaya saya, akan
1. Taat kepada tuhan, raja dan negara
2. Menolong orang pada setiap masa
3. Menurut undang-undang pengakap

B)  Rukun Negara
Kepercayaan kepada Tuhan
Kesetiaan kepada Raja dan Negara
Keluhuran Perlembagaan
Kedaulatan Undang Undang
Kesopanan and Kesusilaan

C) Tabik, Hormat and Cogankata Pengakap

D) Permulaan Pengakap & Cerita Hutan

E) Laung Agong
Kita buat habis baik
Kamu buat habis baik
Kami buat habis baik

Homeschool Scout with Quek TL June 2015

Road safety and hiking.

En led the line and was entrusted the compass.

Fishing with a DIY pole. I like the DIY part.
En's pole has no bait. She doesn't like fishing with a sharp hook and looking at the fish's mouth trap with hook.

Someone caught a fish and before the rest could catch a glimpse of it, dear En immediately grabbed it and put the fish into the water. She said " It can't breathe !! "  You may not want to invite her for fishing in the future !

Tell a story within 2-6 pictures.
Hui said "Han fell into the water and was soaking wet. He had to dry himself by the fire while I happily roast my marshmallow "  :)
