Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve 12 February 2011

Bukit Nanas, a forest in the city. Free entrance.

The forest is accessible from KL tower by two entrance or from Convent Bukit Nanas Secondary School.
A signage which says "Beware of Dangerous Species".

Tar road at the beginning. Hui was so full of zest but asked to end the walk after a short 40minutes.

At this juncture, take this platform to trek Penarahan Trail.

Tree names and information board are provided along the trails.

We have not seen this type of seeds before. It's sticky with black colour seeds when popped open.
Red ants feasting on a dead worm.

Some parts are of the trails are lined with steps.

When we came to this fork road, I was wondering which trail to take. After checking the trail on the right, En came back and said "This one (Penarahan- left), it looks more like a forest" and without hesitation, she walked into it.

black thick fungi.

Thick twirly vines.
We were swarmed by giant mosquitoes despite spraying much of Tiger Balm Mosquito Repellant. ! The moment we stopped to check the guide book or snap photos, few big mosquitoes would attacked us mercilessly.

I read that, there are many species of insects. Hui particularly loves insects.

Another one.

Hui decided to head back to the car but En wanted to continue. So we bid farewell to En and dad as  they trekked the Suboh trail.

and bamboo walk.

Passed a suspension bridge

and came to a pony ride area near the forest trail gate.
There is a complimentary nature walk for those visiting the Observation Desk at KL Tower. Tour schedule 11am, 1230pm, 230pm and 430pm.  Produce your ticket at the Forest Trail Gate.

Not tadpoles? 7 January 2010

Friday afternoon.
We went to dpc park after hearing aunty J spotted some frogspawn. Unfortunately, we couldn't locate any. I used a tiffin to scoop some tadpoles (which I thought was tadpoles) and some algae with water snail on it. Happily, I thought we could observe the life cycle of frog again.

En trying to fish with her self made rod.
I found a shady place, sat down and went into deep thoughts while En&Hui played by the brook. En came over and asked what I was doing. I told her I was thinking about life. She said, " me too". Naturally, the next question from me would be, "What is on your mind? " En added ' I can't tell you, I think of it everyday and you will know it when I grow up'. !!!!!

Hui cooked with the stinky water from the brook. Just like what I did when I was a child.

When dad came home at night, he said that those are  fishes and not tadpoles !!
The next morning, I told En about it. She replied 'Yeah tadpole's head is big and black'. My jaw dropped, I asked 'Why didn' t you tell me yesterday ?' Oh man! This is embarassing. ;p

Jacob Ballas Children Garden Singapore 28 December 2010

Tuesday am
My favourite garden and can't get enough of it, after the second visit. Entrance is free. It's located next to Singapore Botanical Garden.

Red ants on the calabash fruit. Young fruit can be eaten as vegetable. Old fruits has hard shell which can be made into container or musical instruments. En found this abandoned nest.

Map of Jacob Ballas.

The tree house, with two tunnel slides.

the other side of the tree house.

Left- Stairs for parents to climb up the tree house.
Right - this part is for children only.

The signboard which said so.

So much fun for En.

Baobab tree which has a swollen trunk- national tree of Madagascar.

This is the best tree for EnHui to climb. No ants on it. :) It's located next to the water play area.

plant maze. Without much ado, En stepped in. She loves maze.

Taman Botani Negara, Shah Alam 5 December 2010

Sunday 11am
Taman Botani Negara is also called 'Taman Pertanian Malaysia'.
For direction -Head to Shah Alam from Federal Highway. Exit at 'Persiaran Kayangan'. Take right turn at roundabout. Go straight. At roundabout (with lots of flags), go straight too. Watch out for "Taman Botani Negara, Shah Alam" signage (left side), to turn right.

contacts. all sort of activities are available, camping (by the pond), chalet, fishing and cycling. Skytrek is located at this park as well. No charge on parking. Entrance for adult is RM3 and children, aged 6 -12, RM1. Fees include bus rides.

This is a much clearer map than the print-out ones given at the entrance.
The bus route only covers the right side of the map but not the fruit plantation on the left, which is another 2.5km, either by foot or bike.

The bus queue at 11am and bus frequency is low. The bus ride travels non-stop to the last station, "Cultural Village' and will make a U-turn from here and stops at each station on the way back.

aah.. GREEN, soothing to my tired eyes.

four seasons temperate house. It is winter season in December.
Fees - adult RM3 and children above 4, RM1. Purchase tickets on the spot.

Bbrrrr. I scurried through it. :0

"Today is the best day, it is winter ", bellowed En.

Huge tree trunk is the best hiding place. peekaboo.
picnic lunch admist the greenery. :)

At animal park, you can see horses, porcupines, civet cat and birds.
While waiting for the bus, the kids excitedly watched how the colony of ants carried their loot back home.

Such huge crumb.

Half of the crumb was stuffed into the hole. Unfortunately, the bus arrived and I was too exhausted to wait any longer and they didn't see the ending part.
