Cultural Appreciation Show and Tell (New Zealand) 8 March 2015

Pavlova made by the kids for Hui's presentation.

En did a craft session on Maori Poi, which she learnt from her last year New Zealand trip.

This was our last session with the group. Kids decided to opt out of the co op in May 2015 after their hectic Ice Skating competition in April 2015. They needed a break and wanted to try something new.

Cultural Appreciation Show and Tell (India) 28 November 2014

Hui presented "Henna" topic and drew Henna on some kind willing co op members. :)

En told three Indian fables and threw some questions at the end of the talk. The prize was a Bharunda bird that she printed out and sticked it on an  ice cream stick with tape.

Cultural Appreciation Show and Tell (Russia) 30 June 2015

En always prepare a poster of some basic words in the chosen language of the month. And she remembers the words easily.

For Russia, she prepared a presentation on Russian Folk Dance. Somehow she has the softspot for traditional dances.

Hui 's topic is Gorodki, a Russian folk sport.

Her presentation was drawn and pasted on a recycle cardboard.

Cultural Appreciation Show and Tell (Italy) 20 January 2014

En presented "Italian Gelato" while Hui did a "Uno Dos Tres Stella" game.

I hardly need to help En these days. She did her research and preparation and come to me when she has question.

Her home made gelato.

As for Hui, I will research with her and let her choose her topic and how she likes to prepare it. Then she will take on the role of preparation and I attend to her question.

Cultural Appreciation Show and Tell (France) 2 December 2013

Ballet Steps.

From Malaysia, the Cultural Appreciation Co-op moved to France. This time round, En Hui teamed up with their friends F and S to present the topic "French Ballet."
It was nice to see the them taking little 4 year old S in as part of their team gently.  During the discussion, En Hui went through "working with others" and "putting things together" difficulties.

I like that. :) "Win-Win", "Win-Lose" and "Lose-Win" of Sean Covey became a subject of discussion.

Here is Ratatouille, our french dinner. :D

Cultural Appreciation Show and Tell (Malaysia) 11 November 2013

6 year old Hui answering questions from her fellow HS-friends joyfully.

. After seeing what her friends and En did at the first "Show and Tell", Hui said she wanted to present a topic too. Today, she presented " Chinese Hair Combing Ceremony" at ease.

Cultural Appreciation Co Op Show and Tell (Malaysia) 7 October 2013

En(in whiteT ), doing what she does best,  that is to work with her hands and teach.
She loves weaving and I see her weaves everywhere, whenever she sees leaves great for weaving.

En excitedly joined a "Cultural Appreciation Co Op Show and Tell" initiated by a homeschool mom, one of the many moms I admire.  She has always wanted to do a "Show and Tell"  with friends and this opportunity came at the right time.

After the first meet up, they went home with some work to complete for the next presentation. En paired up with a friend on a weaving topic.

I told her to do research, just as what her team mate has said,  even though I know she is not into long research and reading dry facts. No, not just yet.

A couple of days later, she said to me  this"Show and Tell" is not something she wanted to do and wish to pull out.

I know it may be the dreaded research she has to do. I should have just let her ease into it than to tell her she has to do it.
So I said to her, we will need to do the first topic as promised and will stop thereafter. Thankfully, she agreed without any hesitation.

And I added (with the hope to fix my mistake), " Follow your heart and do what you enjoys doing". And leave her be.

I watched her busy with her usual knick-knack and then she said she only needs to cut banana leaves for the "Show and Tell". On that day, she showed the simple weaving part that she always does and gave an impromptu short sentences. No long dry facts. After it all ended, she said she likes to continue and do more "Show and Tell".

Phew!

I admire her calm "Show and Tell" and the very best part is, she enjoyed the session.
